Gym Flooring Installation Guide
Installing rubber floors might seem like a daunting task, but at Perfect Surfaces, we offer rubber products that are easy for DIYers and professionals alike to install. Different rubber types require different installation methods, and the ease of installation varies based on the rubber flooring format you choose (tiles, mats, rolls). Lightweight rubber gym tiles are relatively easy to install due to their interlocking design, and rubber gym mats can either be loose-laid or glued down. Rubber gym flooring rolls tend to be heavier and require more skill for a professionally finished installation, with either a full spread glue down or minimal double-sided tape for seams and perimeter
If you are a DIYer, we suggest you pick up the following equipment for your installation: straight edge, adhesives, double-sided tapes, a utility knife, subfloor preparation materials, cleaning supplies, and safety gear (gloves, glasses). This section gives you a short installation guide, for more detailed information contact our flooring experts at Perfect Surfaces.
How to Install Rubber Tiles
Perfect Surfaces’ VersaTREAD puzzle tiles and GatorSHOCK® high-performance impact tiles are extremely versatile and easy to install. VersaTREAD rubber tiles feature a built-in interlocking mechanism that fits tightly together when installed, and GatorSHOCK® tiles employ innovative X-connectors that connect SHOCK tiles from beneath. These tiles are both DIY-friendly and can be loosely laid on any flat surface, saving the extra cost of adhesive!
Before installing any of our products, we recommend taking them out and leaving them to acclimate for at least 24 hours. We also suggest starting your installation from the center of the room, working outward, and following the instructions in the installation manual. This will save time and prevent long-term damage to incorrectly installed products.
How to Install Rubber Mats
Rubber mats are ideal for large and small spaces. They are DIY-friendly, easy to install, and can easily be removed, making them a great fit for any flooring project. Fitness mats like VersaRUBBER® fitness mats and VersaTREAD rubber gym mats are low-maintenance, durable, and slip-resistant, and their easy installation makes them ideal for the DIY-enthusiast home gym project!
Depending on your needs, VersaRUBBER® rubber sheets and VersaTREAD rubber sheets can be loose-laid or permanently installed by either taping or gluing them down. Bear in mind that these gym mats are heavy enough to stay firm on the floor and do not require adhesive, saving you the extra cost of glue. For best results, ensure the subfloor is levelled and well-compacted before you install the rubber fitness mats.
How to Install Rubber Rolls
Our VersaTREAD rubber rolls are the most cost-effective gym flooring for large commercial or residential projects. They provide excellent resilience, sound absorption, traction, and cushion. VersaTREAD rolled rubber is available in a variety of speckled colors to suit any project. Installation-wise, rubber gym rolls require a bit more labor than mats and tiles; however, their straight edges can be aligned to cover greater square footage, much less little time than mats or tiles.
We highly recommend you lay your rolls on a sturdy, level surface for best results. Ensure the subfloor is free of debris (sweep or vacuum the surface before installation) to avoid bumps throughout your space. VersaTREAD rubber fitness rolls can be taped down or glued to the floor- and we always recommend professional installation, for best results. Should you choose to install your VersaTREAD rolled rubber yourself, please ensure you have read our installation manual prior to commencement.
