Gym Flooring Trends

Gyms are more than just fitness facilities; they offer social opportunities for frequent visitors. As a commercial gym owner, having a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing space makes your gym more appealing to users. When designing your commercial or home gym, we suggest you prioritize rubber gym flooring products that protect your subfloor from damage, protect users’ joints and muscles from impact, and can withstand heavy weights and equipment.

In this segment, we’ll share our favorite gym floor trends to make your gym space a statement piece worth working out in. We’ll also dive deeper into recycled rubber gym floors, artificial gym turf, and virgin rubber gym flooring options.

Feel free to contact our rubber gym flooring experts with any questions!

Recycled Rubber Gym Flooring (rubber tiles, mats and rolls)

Rubber floors have been an upward trending trend in the fitness space due to their versatility, durability, and safety. Rubber gym flooring is available in different colors (solid black or colored speckle options). It can be customized to suit your design needs. Many of Perfect Surfaces’ rubber gym products are made from recycled rubber tires and sold as rubber interlocking gym tiles, rubber gym mats, and rolled rubber gym flooring.

Some of our recycled gym rubber flooring products include our VersaTREAD rubber fitness rolls, VersaTREAD fitness mats, and VersaTREAD interlocking puzzle fitness tiles. Our recycled rubber fitness flooring products are generally DIY-friendly and can be loosely laid temporarily or installed semi-permanently using tape or glue. Artificial sprint turf in professional gym

Artificial Turf Gym Flooring

Commercial and home gym owners often seek innovative ways to make their workout areas inviting, efficient, and safe for different exercises. Over the years, artificial turf, also called artificial (fake) grass, has become a popular gym flooring trend. This gym flooring option helps mimic the outdoors inside the gym, which is a massive benefit for fitness enthusiasts looking to train indoors for otherwise outdoor activities. Perfect Surfaces carries a variety of gym turf products for a multitude of applications, including GatorFIT® athletic turf (15’ wide rolls), GatorFIT® Lite fitness turf (12’ wide rolls with a lower pile height than original GatorFIT® sport turf), and GatorFIT® Sprint turf (6’ wide rolls, fabricated with lanes).

All GatorFIT® synthetic fitness turf options boast impact-absorbing ActionBACK foam to reduce impact on athlete’s joints; they are versatile and can withstand many different workout routines, sports training and competition, and other athletic activities. The durability, slip-resistance, comfort, easy installation and low maintenance make fake sport turf a great fitness flooring option for both home and commercial fitness spaces. We strongly recommend speaking to our specialists to pick out the best artificial sport grass for your gym/workout needs.

EPDM Rubber Flooring (Virgin Rubber)

EPDM rubber floors, also called virgin or synthetic rubber, are made of polymerized chemical compounds, making them denser and more durable than recycled rubber flooring. Rubber rolls, mats, sheets, and tiles that contain high EPDM—like our VersaRUBBER® Elite tiles—are anti-slip, anti-fatigue, extremely comfortable, and much more durable than vinyl flooring. Rubber gym floors can withstand heavy gym equipment and workout impact without damage and have high sound absorption properties. The non-porous nature of synthetic gym rubber makes them an excellent option for both home and commercial gyms.

The material and method used in manufacturing separates recycled rubber from EPDM rubber floors: recycled rubber gym floors are made from recycled tires, while EPDM is made from virgin rubber. The cost of gym rubber flooring products will often depend on how much EPDM the products contain. Higher EPDM levels often translate to superior quality. As a result, virgin rubber gym flooring is more durable and lasts significantly longer than recycled rubber gym floors.
