Sports Flooring Installation Guides

Are you looking to install sports flooring but unsure where to start? Whether you’re setting up a gymnasium, fieldhouse, or skating facility, it’s important to choose the right flooring and installation method.

This guide shares different types of DIY-friendly sports flooring products at Perfect Surfaces and those that require professional installation. Let’s dive in and find the best solution for your sports facility.

DIY-Friendly Sports Flooring Products: Loose Lay

We offer a few DIY-friendly sports flooring options that can be loosely laid on any firm subfloor. For gymnasiums or fieldhouses, our synthetic SnapGRID® WP wood-look rubber planks SnapGRID® LX2 interlocking sport court tiles can be loose-laid to provide a nonporous athletic floor that any novice DIYer can complete in a snap.

GatorSHOCK® rubber impact tiles are another versatile product that can be used in a variety of high-impact sports facilities, such as CrossFit and spaces that train for Olympic lifting. These floors boast an innovative X-Connector interlocking design, which allows them to easily be loosely laid over any smooth existing surface while providing a sturdy surface.

RivalMATS are an outstanding product to use for combat sports flooring. These roll-out mats are DIY-friendly, can be loose-laid, and are quick and easy to set up, break down, and transport.

If you’re after baseball and softball DIY-friendly products, we recommend our VersaRUBBER® and DuraRUBBER® rubber athletic mats. Please note that these mats can also be taped or glued down for semi-permanent installation.

DIY-Friendly Sports Flooring Products: Tape/Glueing

For larger floor coverage, RivalMATS wrestling roll-out mats and MMA vinyl mats can be connected using the built-in hook-and-loop system and taped down for a semi-permanent installation.

VersaRUBBER® rubber mats are well-suited to hockey and skating facilities where gluing down the mats to the substrate for a professional finish is permitted.

VersaTREAD rolled rubber flooring offers resilience, sound absorption, traction and cushion in a single product, making it the ideal flooring solution for gyms and fitness facilities when glued to the substrate for permanent use.

VersaRUBBER® ICE hockey mats and VersaTREAD hockey and arena rolled rubber are excellent solutions for hockey rink flooring and skating facility flooring where a glue-down installation is permitted. These products are built to withstand cold, moisture, humidity, dirt, and spills and are durable and hard-wearing enough to withstand the high-traffic demands of users wearing hockey or figure skates.

Sports Flooring Products that Require Professional Installation

Although most of our products are DIY-friendly, a few require professional installation for the best results. Available in 12’ and 15’ width rolls (by any desired length), GatorFIT® artificial sports turf provides a comfortable and safe impact-absorbing surface for athletes. This ultra-durable athletic turf is also low-maintenance and customizable to suit a wide variety of training facility aesthetics. While smaller rolls can be managed by a novice DIYer, installation of larger synthetic sport turf rolls in expansive spaces should be done by professionals with the experience and equipment to produce a professionally finished installation.

GatorFLO® synthetic sports flooring is another product that’s best left to professionals to install. This flooring system is ideal for running tracks, gymnasiums, and training facilities. It offers shock absorption, versatility, and seamless uniformity throughout a space. The synergy between the resilient base mat and self-levelling polyurethane elastomer wear layer work together to provide a superior biomechanical sports surface that can be finished in a variety of colors, using different mat thicknesses and densities. The outer layer of this floor can be recoated indefinitely, and this flooring system must be professionally installed.
