Rubber Flooring FAQs

Perfect Surfaces offers a variety of durable rubber flooring options for commercial and residential spaces, both indoors and out. If specialty rubber flooring is a consideration for your upcoming project, let Perfect Surfaces simplify the process by addressing some of the most frequently asked questions.

The FAQs below answer the most common questions we receive. For more information, our product experts are available to answer any questions and offer their expertise regarding the best options for your project.

Is Rubber Flooring Durable and Waterproof?

Regardless of the format, be it rubber rolls, rubber mats, or rubber tiles, all of Perfect Surfaces’ rubber flooring is extremely durable and resilient due to its natural elasticity. Resilient rubber floors can withstand heavy workouts and high-traffic areas in residential and commercial spaces. The durability of rubber flooring is determined by its production, material, and process- rather than just its thickness. A common misconception is that thicker rubber equals more durable rubber, but this is not always the case- vulcanized and virgin rubber are actually the most durable rubber options!

While rubber surfaces are not inherently waterproof, rubber floors can offer a level of water resistance. Vulcanized rubber flooring typically provides better water resistance than recycled rubber floors. For example, dual-layer VersaRUBBER® vulcanized rubber mats have a non-porous surface that is designed for use in areas where exposure to moisture is common, such as splashing on pool surrounds, sweaty workouts, rain on decks and patios, and fluids commonly found in the garage. For water-resistant recycled rubber flooring, the surface must be sealed.

Application of Perfect Surfaces’ CleanBreak – Rubber Flooring & Mat Sealant can seal the surface of rubber tiles, rubber rolls, and rubber mats.

Does Rubber Flooring Smell?

There are a variety of rubber options that smell like stinky rubber flooring, but there are also many others with a slight smell that dissipates over time. Some products have a stronger rubber smell than others, typically due to the production process and materials used in manufacturing. Rubber flooring odors are common immediately following installation but generally wear off with time.

For reduced odor, a low-VOC urethane-bonded rubber flooring is recommended. Contact our experts at Perfect Surfaces to choose the best odorless flooring option for any application.

Can It Be Used Outdoors?

Versatile rubber flooring is a great option for nearly any commercial or residential space- indoor or outdoor. Rubber can be used for locker room rubber mats, outdoor rubber playground flooring, doggy daycare rubber floors, rubber barn floors, boat and boat dock rubber mats, basement rubber flooring, storage unit rubber floors, fitness facility rubber flooring, ice skating rink rubber mats, rubber garage mats, rubber patio tiles, rubber deck tiles, rubber veterinary clinic flooring, rubber hospital flooring, and much more.

What Does Rubber Flooring Cost?

The cost of rubber flooring will vary based on the thickness, quality, format, and quantity of flooring required. Rolled rubber flooring is typically the most cost-effective option compared to DIY-friendly rubber interlocking tiles and rubber sheets and mats. However, rolled rubber is heavier than rubber floor tiles and mats, and professional installation of rolled rubber floors is recommended for the best results.

Perfect Surfaces offers premium, cost-effective rubber flooring products for residential and commercial projects. These products are easy to install and provide long-lasting, durable flooring. Contact the experts at Perfect Surfaces for recommendations on selecting the best rubber floor for your next project.
